Most people on Germany's Islamist watch list have German or dual citizenship - media

More than half of the hundreds of people on Germany’s Islamic extremist watchdog are the country’s own citizens, a report citing government data said.

The data, quoted by the Deutsche Presse-Agentur, come from the government’s response to a request from the right-wing anti-immigration party Alternative for Germany (AfD).

Out of 330 people listed as threats on the basis of “Religious ideology” On 1 July, 186 were either exclusively German nationals or had a nationality other than German.

Among 144 foreigners on the Islamist watchdog were 61 citizens of Syria. The group also included 17 Iraqis, 13 Russians, 11 Turkish nationals, one Afghan, eight people whose nationality was unclear, and two stateless persons.

According to the media, the police are keeping an eye on the so-called “Dangerous persons” considered as a cable to commit politically motivated violence, such as terrorist acts.

This year, authorities banned several Islamist organizations accused of funding terrorism with their donations this year. Such a group is said to have glorified Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) and spread anti-Semitic propaganda.
