2-year-old NYC boy among 40+ killed after hurricane Ida - remains US crashes northeast with heavy rain, floods and tornadoes (VIDEOS)
At least 42 people, including a young child, have died in the wake of brutal storms that hit the Northeast with deaths reported in five states after the remains of Hurricane Ida brought deadly floods and tornadoes
The storm-related death toll reached at least 42 on Thursday with 23 reported in New Jersey, 13 in New York, fire in Pennsylvania and one in both Connecticut and Maryland - the latter victim only 19 years old. A 2-year-old boy was found dead in New York City, one among at least eight victims who drowned in basements of residential buildings, according to New York Police Commissioner Dermot Shea.
In Woodbury, Connecticut, state troops Brian Mohl were killed after his vehicle was swept off the road by floods. While working a night watchman, the officer warned his department that he was trapped in deep water and was in distress - “That’s the last time they heard from him," said a police spokesman.

Vehicle-related deaths are among the most common after major floods. In the Philadelphia area, a 65-year-old man was found dead in his car after it went into a stream during the flood. Another woman in a suburb of Philly was reportedly killed after a tree fell on her home.
Evidence of the devastation caused by the storms was featured in photos and videos circulating on social media, with a clip showing the roof of a home in Manville, New Jersey, went up in flames as it remained submerged under several feet of water.
From New York’s subway system to New Jersey’s Newark airport and even the state’s TD Bank Ballpark - no one was spared the floods.
It looks more like a subway wash than a subway station. This flood is going to do an incredible amount of damage to the NYC subway system. pic.twitter.com/bgtMbjiHvM

A number of tornadoes also hit Wednesday night - seven alone in New Jersey and Pennsylvania according to the National Weather Service (NWS) - which is destroying several communities.
The storms that hit the east coast come days after Ida landed as a Category 4 hurricane last weekend, destroying parts of Louisiana and the Mississippi, both of which are still being torn apart by the storm. While downgraded to a tropical depression earlier this week, Ida’s fallout has brought six to eight inches of precipitation to the northeast, triggering flooding while setting an hourly record for Manhattan, according to the NWS.
On Thursday night, the agency predicted flooding for 43 locations across the Mid-Atlantic region, as the naughty weather is expected to continue.
